CASE FOR CHANGE
Now that you have started to think about your vision, I would like you to take a quick glimpse into the future by contemplating for a moment what will happen if you do nothing and carry on as you are.
You are already aware that you are dissatisfied with your current situation and you have identified why this is and specifically what about your relationship you are unhappy with the topic ‘Why are you here?’
To increase the necessity of moving towards your vision, a ‘Case for Change’ is a useful tool that serves as a compelling call to action or a catalyst for change. The idea behind it is to think about what will happen and what your life will look like if you remain in the current situation that you are dissatisfied with. To understand the cost to you and your life if you don’t make any changes.
The exercise encourages you to reflect on your current situation, specifically focusing on your relationship. It asks you to consider the challenges you are facing in your relationship and how they are making you feel, imagining your life one year from now if no changes are made. This visualisation extends to five years and ten years into the future, exploring various aspects of life such as personal growth, family, career, and overall happiness.
Use the worksheet to complete the exercise and capture your thoughts and reflections.
The ‘Case for Change’ is designed to counteract the tendency to procrastinate and put off important decisions and changes. By glimpsing into a future without change, you get a stark reminder of the potential personal cost and regret that may arise from maintaining the status quo.
In order to set yourself up for success, it can be helpful to balance both the positive motivation of your vision (the ‘carrot’) and the negative motivation of your case for change (the ‘stick’). The two elements combined create a powerful force to break the cycle and move you towards meaningful progress.
Reflection
- What insights did I gain from this topic or exercise?
- What might prevent me from taking action?
